Ahead of the recently-concluded third and final ODI between Australia and India at the Sydney Cricket Ground, former opening batter David Warner was seen having a chat with legendary Virat Kohli. During the conversation, the Australian veteran had complimented the India star for his fitness, as the duo met each other after a long time.
Warner's comments on Virat's fitness are indeed agreeable, as the latter is still a quick runner between the wickets and a live wire while fielding. While the 36-year-old continues to play only One-Day Internationals now, fans and cricket experts have advocated for his inclusion in the upcoming 2027 World Cup, which will be held in Africa. Warner, however, feels that Kohli will be able to play well beyond that given his fitness.
"I had not seen Virat Kohli in a fair while, so I just embraced him, gave him a handshake and hug, and just asked how he and the family were going. We spoke a little about cricket, then I told him he looks super fit and can play until he’s 50,” Warner said via Kayosports in a recent video on their Instagram handle.
Virat Kohli leads the chase, again
Speaking of Virat's form with the bat, the New Delhi-born entered the third ODI on the back of two dismal outings, where he had failed to open his account. However, come the Sydney encounter, Virat looked in no discomfort at all, remaining unbeaten on 74, as the Men in Blue chased down the 237-run target pretty comfortably.
The Run Machine, as he is fondly called, engaged in an unassailed partnership with former captain Rohit Sharma, who had smashed a brilliant century too. The partnership between the duo took the Indian cricket fans into a trip of nostalgia, as they have won the games for their country on countless occasions with their batting masterclass for well over a decade now.
