Former New Zealand Test skipper Kane Williamson was disturbed by a ball while he was stretching ahead of Day 3 of the first Test against South Africa. The incident was caught on camera and went viral on social media soon after that. However, it was all fun and jokes as nothing transpired after the incident. He went on with his stretching exercises ahead of the day’s play.

Coming to his on-field performance, Williamson once again smashed a century against the Proteas in the second innings. The 33-year-old made 109 runs in 132 deliveries as New Zealand are leading by 528 runs after the end of Day 3. In the first innings of the match, the star Kiwi batters made 118 runs, while batting at number four, Rachin Ravindra hit 240 runs. Courtesy of their impactful performances, the hosts posted 511 runs on the board.

In reply, the inexperienced South African side struggled massively. Barring David Bedingham and Keegan Petersen, none of the batters looked comfortable, as the visitors were bundled out for 162 runs, helping the Tim Southee-led side take a lead of 349 runs in Bay Oval.

Notably, the New Zealand bowlers were phenomenal with their line and length and the pace duo Matt Henry and Kyle Jamieson picked up three and two wickets each respectively. Coming to the spinners, Mitchell Santner picked up three wickets while Ravindra picked up two.

Ahead of the Test series, South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad stated that the visitors would not surrender to the strong New Zealand team and would give them a strong fight. He also pointed out that South Africa never lost a Test series against New Zealand in this century, and he would aim to keep the streak alive. However, as far as the first Test is concerned, nothing went in favour of the Proteas so far as they need a miracle to turn things around and get the job done in the remaining couple of days.
