Pakistan defeated India in a heart-wrenching thriller on Sunday (September 4) in the ongoing Asia Cup. They chased down 182 with one ball to spare and five wickets in hand. Arshdeep Singh bowled an excellent last over despite having only seven runs to defend but he couldn't stop Iftikhar Ahmed from scoring the winning runs. However, he is trending on social media for wrong reasons unfortunately.

He dropped Asif Ali's catch off Ravi Bishnoi in the 18th over when the game was in absolute balance. The batter was yet to open his account then and ended up scoring 16 off 8 deliveries in the dying stages to clinch a thriller for Pakistan. Expectedly, the Indian fans attacked Arshdeep on social media for his mistake and started abusing him,

However, the left-arm pacer has found support from the former cricketers including Harbhajan Singh who has called out the fans for abusing the cricketer. He pointed out that no cricketer drops the catch on purpose and also lauded Arshdeep and the Indian team for the performance they put in against Pakistan.

"Stop criticising young @arshdeepsinghh No one drop the catch purposely..we are proud of our boys .. Pakistan played better.. shame on such people who r putting our own guys down by saying cheap things on this platform bout arsh and team.. Arsh is GOLD," he tweeted.

Current and Former cricketers rally behind Arshdeep

The likes of Mohammad Hafeez, Abhinav Mukund, Irfan Pathan, Robin Uthappa and Mandeep Singh among others rallied behind Arshdeep Singh. They pointed out the fact that despite being under so much pressure due to drop catch, the youngster bowled a terrific last over taking it to fifth ball defending only 7 runs.

Abhinav Mukund also recalled dropping Steve Smith in Pune Test in 2017 and feeling very horrible and related to Arshdeep Singh's situation while supporting him. "After dropping steve smith in the pune test, i was absolutely inconsolable for hours alone in my room. I really hope @arshdeepsinghh doesnt feel that way. He will be more gutted than anyone else in our country tonight. Lets cut him some slack! #INDvsPAK," he wrote on Twitter.
