Former England skipper Michael Vaughan feels that Australia, being the hosts of the ongoing Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 should have had stadiums with roof covers as venues for the games. The global event is taking place in Australia amid the rainy season, and multiple matches have been affected by rains making it difficult for teams to aim big.

England’s game against Ireland was affected by rain, and Ireland won the contest by the DLS method. South Africa’s game against Zimbabwe was halted by rain. The fixture between New Zealand and Afghanistan was abandoned without even the toss happening, courtesy of rains, and Afghanistan’s game against Ireland saw a similar outcome.

After India vs Pakistan, the one game that everyone was eagerly waiting for was the competition between fierce rivals Australia and England. The game, which was scheduled for a 1:00 PM toss, was delayed as the rain did not stop pouring. Vaughan believed instead of organizing matches at the MCG in Melbourne, they could have scheduled at the stadiums that have roof covers.

Taking to his Twitter, he wrote: “Rainy season in Australia .. Stadium in Melbourne with roof on .. !!!!!  Wouldn’t it have been sensible to use it ??? #JustSaying #ICCT20WorldCup2022.”

Vaughan was very critical while commenting upon the situation, and he went on to say:

“Can I also ask why in Sri Lanka where they get huge thunderstorms they cover all the ground & get play back on quickly  … Why hasn’t the MCG been totally covered for the last 2 days ????? #JustAsking #ICCT20WorldCup2022.”

Will the must-win game take place?

The Australia vs England clash is a crucial one for both teams, as the losing side will be virtually knocked out of the tournament. Both teams have won a game and lost the other so far, and another loss on the cards might put their campaign in danger. If the game does not happen, Australia and England will share a point each, but that in no way, can assure then a semi-finals berth.
