New Zealand broke their duck against Australia in the inaugural Super 12 clash of the ongoing T20 World Cup at the SCG after defeating the hosts for the first time in Australia since 2011. The Kiwis hammered their rivals by 89 runs to get off the mark in the tournament after setting a humongous total of 200 runs on the back of Finn Allen and Devon Conway's masterful innings.

Australia's chase suffered an unfortunate start after veteran opener David Warner was sent back cheaply in the second over in one of the most bizarre dismissals of the tournament. However, Aaron Finch wasn't deterred by the loss of his opening partner and continued playing his shots, eventually meeting his demise in the fourth over.

Star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh followed his skipper in the next over after playing a couple of lovely shots. The hard-hitting duo of Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell threatened to stitch a partnership before the former was dismissed by a stunning catch by Glenn Phillips. The Kiwi leaped in the air like a cat to complete the catch of the tournament so far.

Things got progressively worse for the hosts after Tim David and Matthew Wade were dismissed in quick succession. But it was Maxwell's wicket in the 14th over that felt like the final nail in the coffin. The New Zealand bowlers were relentless throughout as the Aussies whimpered to a paltry 111 runs.

Devon Conway and James Neesham take New Zealand to a record total after Finn Allen's explosion at the top

Earlier in the match, the Kiwis were put into bat after Aaron Finch won the toss. His decision backfired instantly as the young Kiwi opener Finn Allen came out all guns blazing. His belligerent innings of 42 runs in just 16 deliveries helped New Zealand pound Aussie bowlers for 56 runs in the opening four overs of the match.

Australia pulled things back to an extent after the dismissal of the explosive opener and skipper Kane Williamson's sluggish innings. But Devon Conway was in no mood of letting the Aussie bowlers off the hook and continued finding boundaries at regular intervals.

Conway, who was playing the role of the anchor sheet, put his foot on the accelerator after the dismissal of Williamson and Glenn Phillips. He compiled a sensational innings of 92 runs in 58 deliveries to take New Zealand to a mammoth total of 200 runs with a bit of help from James Nessham's (26 off 13) pyrotechnics. This was New Zealand's highest total in a T20 World Cup game.

Twitter was at it's hilarious best after the Kiwi's dispatched Australia with utter disdain:
