The game of cricket witnesses some epic moments. A team bagging a historic win denotes a major upset for the other team involved in the contest. From the Netherlands defeating England a decade ago at the World Cup to two-time champions West Indies crashing out of the tournament without even making it to Super 12, cricket can be cruel to many.
A major turn of events was seen when Zimbabwe clinched a win against cricketing giants Pakistan in their T20 World Cup 2022 fixture in Perth on October 27, Thursday. The game, which looked to be one-sided after Pakistan dominated the first half, turned completely in Zimbabwe’s favour, thanks in major part to the bowlers.
The victory was very sweet for Zimbabwe players and fans, but as much bitter for their opposition. Pakistan had come into the game after a loss against arch-rivals India, and the Men in Green had been hoping to win this one easily. But things fell out of place, and they failed to chase a sub-par total of 131 runs, thereby losing the game by just one run.
It sure was a tough pill to digest for the Pakistani cricketers and in a video that went viral on social media, Shadab Khan was even seen crying. On the pathway between the stadium and the dressing room, Shadab Khan was seen down on his knees with his head lowered while a member of the staff consoled him.
Cricket can be so cruel sometimes.🫣😨 pic.twitter.com/dY5VXrlddM

Pakistan's hunt for a semi-finals berth
Since the loss against Zimbabwe, Pakistan cricketers have received backlash from former Pakistan players, majorly for showcasing a poor batting performance and being unable to chase the total. The loss has put Pakistan in trouble, as their chances of qualifying for the semi-finals have now been hampered. They need to win the remaining three matches and also maintain a high Net Run Rate in order to find a semi-finals berth.
Pakistan’s next fixture is scheduled against the Netherlands on October 30 at the same venue in Perth. Pakistan are then scheduled to play South Africa and Bangladesh on November 3 and November 6th respectively.
