It was the South African pace attack that made India feel the heat on a chilly evening in Perth in the Super 12 stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 on Sunday, October 30. Suryakumar Yadav’s sublime 68-run knock off 40 balls helped India post a total of 133 in their 20 overs. In the midst of the Indian batting innings, Yuzvendra Chahal made a hilarious gesture towards the on-field umpires.

Considering the bounce on the Australian tracks, the total could turn out to be a competitive one for the Proteas to chase. In response, as the South African batters came onto the pitch to chase, Arshdeep Singh jolted them early, picking up the key wickets of Quinton de Kock and Rilee Rossouw upfront.

In the first innings, during the drinks break, Chahal was seen carrying a few drinks for the India batters in the middle and engaged in a fun conversation with the umpires on the field. Moreover, in a video circulated on the social media, he was seen to be making hilarious gestures towards the umpires prior to leaving the field.

The spinner is a part of the squad but is yet to play a match for the Men in Blue in the ongoing showpiece event. Rohit Sharma and management have decided to consider off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin in the playing XI over Chahal.

India have slowed down the South African innings restricting them to just 40 runs in their ten overs. However, the match could still be anyone’s from here on as the Proteas still have vital wickets in hand. It remains to be seen if India can shift the gears and scalp a few more wickets.

A win in this fixture essentially means that India’s semi-final berth is nearly confirmed as they would have won three matches with six points. Interestingly, Pakistan will be hoping for India to win this fixture against South Africa so as to make their case for the last four, stronger.
