Rishabh Pant found himself in the middle of a comical episode during the first session of Day 4 of the second Test of the ongoing five-match series between England and India.
Intending to go for a big swing across the line, he accidently ended up losing control of his bat which flew and landed near the square-leg umpire, leaving everyone from fielders, umpires, crowd, commentators, and even Pant saw the funny side of it. The event occurred on the fourth delivery of the 34th over of India's second innings, bowled by pacer Josh Tongue.

At the end of the 34th over, India's score stood at 165/3 with skipper Shubman Gill and Pant batting in the middle. By that point, Pant had scored 32 off 21 with four fours and two sixes. Four overs after the incident, Lunch was taken with the visitors with a 357-run lead. The duo would look to extend their lead and score as quickly as possible to give the bowlers a chance to bowl England out and level the series.
Karun Nair (26 off 46) and KL Rahul (55 off 84) were the two wickets to fall in the opening session after Yashasvi Jaiswal (28 off 22) departed on Day 3. Pant, who could score only 25 in the first innings, would be aiming to register a more meaningful score.

Levelling the series will be an immense achievement for the Gill-led side as they are without their pace-bowling spearhead Jasprit Bumrah in this contest. Bumrah is expected to be fresh and play an important role in the third match of this series, which will be played from July 10 at Lord's.
