In an astonishing display of bowling against Chennai Super Kings, Punjab Kings' Yuzevndra Chahal bagged a brilliant hat-trick in Match 49 of IPL 2025 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday, April 30. Chahal bowled the penultimate over and sent three of CSK batters packing to bag his second hat-trick in IPL history.

Deepak Hooda, Anshul Kamboj and Noor Ahmad were the three victims that were involved in the hat-trick for the Haryana-born leg-spinner. Notably, Chahal took four wickets in the over, as he also got the better of MS Dhoni on the second ball after getting smashed for a six on the first ball.

The leggie had gone wicketless in his first spell, but returned to bowl the penultimate over, while MS Dhoni was on strike. A nicely tossed up first ball of the 19th over went for a huge six over the long-on region, however, a brave Chahal bowled another ball, quicker through the air, and got the legendary stumper-batter caught at long-off. The third ball of the over was a dot, but what followed later, was absolute carnage as the three players up next departed without adding a run on consecutive deliveries.

With this brilliant feat, Chahal has now joined Yuvraj Singh and Amit Mishra in the elite list of players with multiple hat-tricks in IPL history. While Mishra has three hat-tricks, the former India all-rounder also picked up a couple of hat-tricks, during his time with Punjab Kings in early years of the league. Chahal now has 218 wickets in the league, which is already the most in the marquee tournament's history.

"It felt good. It was the 19th over and Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) so it could have gone either way, but I was thinking about taking wickets. There were five fielders inside so I was just ensuring the batters don't get settled. Wanted to play with the batters' minds. [On his celebration] That came from a meme, so I thought that any time I get a five-wicket haul or a hat-trick I will celebrate with that. It looked like 190 was a good total to chase and when the ball got older, it started to turn a little, but I think this is a good total to chase still," Chahal said after the end of the first innings against CSK.
