In a crucial match that could potentially secure Sussex's elevation to the first division of the Vitality County Championship, Indian left-arm seamer Jaydev Unadkat emerged as the star performer for the county side. The paceman's remarkable figures of 4 for 52 in the first innings had led Sussex to dismantle Glamorgan for a mere 186 runs on the opening day of their encounter at Hove.
Sussex, eyeing their seventh victory of the season, made a strategic decision to bowl first on an overcast autumn morning. This choice proved crucial as Unadkat struck early, removing Asa Tribe with just his third delivery. The experienced bowler continued to wreak havoc, claiming the prized wicket of Sam Northeast by uprooting his middle stump, and giving the side another breakthrough in no time.

Unadkat ends with remarkable figures of 4/52
While Unadkat's spell was the highlight, he received excellent support from his fellow seamers. Henry Crocombe and Tom Clark chipped in with crucial wickets, maintaining constant pressure on the Glamorgan batters. England pacer Ollie Robinson, despite going wicketless, bowled an impressive nine-over opening spell that kept the opposition on their toes.
Kiran Carlson offered some belief for Glamorgan with a fighting 56 but found little support from his teammates. Dan Douthwaite's late cameo of 41 provided a brief respite, but Unadkat's return to the attack swiftly ended any hopes of a Glamorgan revival. The Indian pacer's was instrumental in removing the opposition's tail, dismissing Andy Gorvin for a four-ball duck.

Sussex's opening duo, Tom Haines and Daniel Hughes, put on a commanding 110-run partnership. Hughes, who was awarded his county cap during the lunch interval alongside James Coles, remained unbeaten on 57 at Stumps. The pair's solid start left Sussex just 65 runs behind with nine wickets in hand, firmly in control of the match.
