The coveted Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL 2024) is in full swing as Dindigul Dragons clashed with Nellai Royal Kings on Sunday (July 28). Notably, star player Ravichandran Ashwin found himself on the other side of his bowling prowess.
Ashwin has been a key 'Mankad' enforcer, for a long time now in the world of cricket. However, during a TNPL clash, the veteran spin legend and audacious batter got the taste of his own medicine during the 15th over of his side's batting. Mohan Prasath, while representing Nellai Kings, found Ashwin transgressing the batting crease prematurely on the non-striker's end.
Noticing this, the bowler took a pause during his run-up. At this juncture, Ashwin would have got himself run out if he had removed the bails. But instead, he chose to approach the umpire and requested to issue a warning to the opponent skipper. As a result, the willy spinner who is a decent batter, remained on the crease without having to feel the guilt of getting dismissed in a rather unfortunate manner.

Ashwin dismissed Jos Buttler during an IPL game through Mankading
Interestingly, back in 2019, during an Indian Premier League (IPL) encounter, Ravichandran Ashwin had executed the 'Mankad' mode of dismissal against the English batter Jos Buttler to stir controversy and debate over the rule which needs some amendment as the game has evolved. The then Punjab Kings skipper had reflected on it and advocated for dismissing a batter based on what laws allow. Hence the non-striker's dismissal should be praised given the sharp cricketing brain of a bowler.

However, after surviving the moment, Ravichandran Ashwin eventually got dismissed via a run out on 15 runs after facing 13 deliveries during his short stint at the crease before Dindigul Dragons got bowled for 136 runs. In reply, Nellai were able to chase down the target to clinch a thrilling win by four wickets. Hence, it is safe to say that now life has seemingly come full circle for Ashwin on the cricket strip by being on both sides of the coin.
