WATCH: Saransh Jain stone-faced after picking maiden Test wicket

Off-spin all-rounder Saransh Jain picked up his first-ever Test wicket in his debut outing at the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground in Colombo, sending Lahiru Kumara packing on Day 4 of the ongoing second Test between Sri Lanka and India. While a debut wicket is always special and bowlers are often expected to celebrate with their teammates, Saransh kept a stone face, showing absolutely no reaction at all.

Saransh forced an outside edge off Kumara's blade as it went in the air towards the covers. Dhruv Jurel timed his dive to perfection and completed a fine catch. Saransh had his eyes on the ball all the while, and the moment it was completed, he did not show any emotion on his face. Wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant then was seen going close to the 33-year-old and congratulating him for his maiden wicket in red-ball cricket.

Saransh finishes the proceedings

The Indore-born cricketer, making his debut at 33, also further picked up the wicket of Sonal Dinusha to account for Sri Lanka getting all out for 290 in the first innings, still trailing by 203 runs. Saransh's wicket of Dinusha was a significant one since the southpaw had smashed a hundred and made the opposition bowlers wonder about their tactics on the previous day.

Once the innings was wrapped up, skipper Shubman Gill enforced the follow-on, asking the Sri Lankans to bat again. The Lankans restarted the innings, this time with a fresher approach, and the positive mindset also allowed for their comeback into the contest.

Kamindu Mendis (55) and Pasindu Sooriyabandara (92) batted brilliantly in the middle. The partners in crime added 115 runs for the third wicket before Mendis had to make the long walk back shortly post his half-century. Later in the innings, Saransh was once again at the happy end as he trapped Niroshan Dickwella lbw to take his first wicket of the innings and third in the day.
