Former Indian opener, Sehwag made it to the cricket field after quite a long time. However, it ain’t a normal cricket field, Virender Sehwag along with many other veteran cricketers played the first ever cricket game on an ice field. In the opening game of St. Moritz Ice Cricket, Viru hammered a brilliant half-century. In the game between Palace Diamonds and Royals, Sehwag scored a classy 62 from 31 balls.
Leading the Diamonds, Sehwag won the toss and decided to bat first against Afridi-led Royals. Just like the good old days, Sehwag started off the proceedings with a boundary. It was a treat to watch as Shoaib Akhtar bowled the first ever ball in Ice Cricket and as usual, Viru smashed it for a boundary and started off in his style. Playing professional cricket after a huge gap, Sehwag’s wonderful knock proved that he still has it in him.
Despite losing the match, Sehwag’s inning and his fearless batting won all hearts, especially that of former India skipper Sourav Ganguly. The game also featured many veteran cricketers such as Kaif, Dilshan, Zaheer Khan, Malinga, Symonds, Akram, Owais Shah, Graeme Smith, Kallis, Razzak, Jayawardene, Vettori, Matt Prior and Ramesh Powar. Playing alongside Sehwag, Symonds scored a crucial 40 which helped the Diamonds post a huge total. However, with Owais Shah smacking a massive 74, Afridi’s Royals managed to chase Diamonds’ target.
Sehwag’s magical tweet:
It wasn’t just Sehwag’s knock which has won hearts, his tweet just after the match did all the magic. After retiring from international cricket, Sehwag has been entertaining us all with his fantabulous tweets. And just like all his tweets, this one is also a classic. “Hathiyar chhode hain ,chalana nahi bhoole hain. (I’ve just left the weapon but didn’t forget using them) Great fun on the ice,” he tweeted.
