South Africa continued to falter in the green jersey as the visitors defeated them by a 28-run margin in the first match of the 3-match T20I series. An aggressive performance with the bat in the initial overs helped India to post a big score in the first match which India will look to continue and wrap up the series with one game to go. South Africa, led by a struggling JP Duminy, will need more consistency in their batting line-up and a proper opening bowling pair that could contain the runs in the powerplay overs.
All the stats and numbers to look ahead of the crucial 2nd game of the T20I series:
1 – The Centurion T20I will be India’s 12th T20I in South Africa but the first to be played outside of Johannesburg and Durban. India featured in five T20Is at the Wanderers and six in Durban – Five at the Kingsmead and one at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.
4 – Each of the last four Twenty20 matches played at the by the SuperSport Park during the 2017/18 season were won by the teams chasing. However, the teams batting first won five out of the six T20Is played at this venue.
4 – Shikhar Dhawan became the 4th Indian with a fifty-plus score against South Africa after Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina and Virat Kohli. Rohit alone scored three 50+ against the Saffers while Raina, Kohli and Dhawan scored one each.
6 – Number of teams against which India posted 200+ totals in the T20I format. The 203-run total in the first T20I game was India’s highest total and the first 200+ total in T20Is against South Africa.
8.682 – Average run-rate in the T20I matches at the SuperSport Park in Centurion is the 4th best run-rate in the T20I format for any venue and also the highest for any venue in South Africa. (Min: 5 matches hosted)
15.43 – Balls per boundary six in the six T20I games hosted by Centurion which is the 3rd best ratio at any venue that hosted more than five T20Is. Every 13.82 balls records a six in T20Is at Hamilton and 15.01 balls for every six at Mount Maunganui.
600 – Number of fours for Shikhar Dhawan in Twenty20 format. He became the 4th Indian player after Gautam Gambhir, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina to hit 600 fours in T20s during the last match. Rohit Sharma currently has 593 T20 fours on his name.
1982 – Runs Virat Kohli scored in the T20I format so far. He needs 18 more runs to become the third player after Brendon McCullum and Martin Guptill to complete 2000 T20I runs.
