On the occasion of National Sports Day 2021, Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar took to Twitter and urged everyone to make playing sports a habit in the “most challenging circumstances.” Highlighting the benefits of playing sports, the 48-year-old shared a video in which he can be seen playing cricket along with specially-abled kids. In the voice-over, Tendulkar explained that these kids enjoyed playing the game despite their life challenges.
Meanwhile, India celebrates National Sports Day on August 29 every year to commemorate the birth anniversary of hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. Dhyan Chand was a legendary hockey player known for his magical skills with the hockey stick. He was part of the Indian hockey team which clinched gold in the Olympics of 1928, 1932, and 1936. Dhyan Chand was also instrumental in popularizing sports in India.
Sachin Tendulkar highlights the significance of sports
Tendulkar is another Indian sporting icon and he didn’t miss out on explaining the significance of sports on National Sports Day. “Sport brings hope and joy even in the most challenging circumstances. This #NationalSportsDay, make playing a habit. Keep ourselves and those around us happy,” Tendulkar wrote while sharing the video on the micro-blogging website.
“Sports doesn’t seem like a matter of life and death but I have seen the joy sports can bring,” said in the video. “This National Sports Day, play a sport, any sport, play a sport with kids around you because sports might teach us many things but above all, it makes us soul very happy,” he added.
Hailed as the ‘God of Cricket,’ Tendulkar is indeed one of the finest persons to talk about the sports as his cricket career was nothing but glorious. The legendary batter played international cricket for over 23 years and shattered many records in this duration. Although Master Blaster bid farewell to all forms of cricket in 2013, his association with the gentleman’s game didn’t end.
While the veteran has donned the commentator’s for some matches, he continues to give his views on social media. Tendulkar has also played several charity games after retirement and it would be interesting to see when he takes the field next.
