Coming into the IPL 2021 auctions, Sunrisers Hyderabad were arguably one of the most settled sides. They had retained most of their players, needing to fill in just the last few pieces of the jigsaw. With a formidable overseas lineup and young & exuberant Indian core, their squad is as good as it gets.

They struggled in the initial phases of IPL 2020, but that was followed by a commendable comeback. The Orange Army defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore, but eventually succumbed to a defeat in the Qualifier 2 against the Delhi Capitals.

Ahead of the auctions, Sunrisers Hyderabad retained the majority of their players. While the overseas core was retained for obvious reasons, they also showed faith on the Indian youngsters.

As many would have predicted before the start of the auction, the Orange Army were fairly quiet during the frantic bidding wars. The first player they bought in today’s auction was Jagadeesha Suchith. Given that they released spinner Sanjay Yadav, it was very evident that they would have opted for a like for like replacement.

Suchith has bowled well in the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2021. He picked up 3 wickets in the game against Uttar Pradesh and also got 2 wickets in the match against Jammu & Kashmir. He was bought for INR 30 lakhs. For their second pick, they bought Kedar Jadhav at his base price – INR 2 crores.

While he might have had a poor season last time around, this can prove to be a very clever pick. In the recently-concluded Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he scored 2 half-centuries. In what was their third pick of the day, SRH bought Mujeeb Ur Rahman. One again, they got him for the base price – INR 1.5 Cr.

Mujeeb is another player who might not have had success in IPL recently, but his current form is certainly praiseworthy. In the recently-concluded Big Bash League, he picked up 14 wickets in 8 games. He maintained an economy rate of just over 6 runs per over.
