Sri Lanka to play two T20Is against Oman before T20 World Cup 2021

Sri Lanka are set to play two T20Is against Oman before the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup. They will depart for the same on October 3. The two matches will be a good preparation for the Lankan Lions, who are currently re-building. With conditions also being more or less similar during the T20 World Cup, this is a good enough chance for the Sri Lanka team to prepare ahead of the marquee event, which is set to begin on October 18 in Oman and UAE.

The two T20Is will be played on 7th and 9th October, after which both teams will fight it out in Qualifiers. Apart from Sri Lanka and Oman, six other teams will fight it out to be in the Super 12 stage of the T20 World Cup set to be played in UAE. Ashley de Silva, CEO of Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), is looking forward to the two T20Is against Oman.

“We are looking to play as many games as possible leading into the World Cup in similar conditions the team will experience in the UAE. The games against Oman and the 2 ICC practice games will allow us this opportunity,” said Mr. Ashley de Silva told Sri Lanka Cricket

Over the past two months, Sri Lanka have managed to play some decent cricket and has beaten teams like India and South Africa. This should boost their morale up ahead of the Qualifiers. After copping a fair bit of criticism, the Lankan Lions are showing signs to improve in at least in the white-ball formats. 

With pitches in Oman and UAE suiting their style of play more, Sri Lanka will look to deploy spin more and try to stick to their strengths. Meanwhile, Oman have announced their squad for the T20 World Cup on Wednesday (8 September).
