In the last four years, Zimbabwe have got to tour a full member nation for a bilateral ODI series in only Pakistan and Bangladesh as they were made to play against associate nations and the 2nd string sides of major teams touring. With World Cup direct qualification at stake, Zimbabwe will now be touring Sri Lanka for a 5-match ODI series followed by Test series.

This will be the first bilateral ODI series between the two sides since 2008 and only the 2nd on Sri Lankan soil. Overall, 5 bilateral ODI series have been played between the two with Sri Lanka winning in all of them.

When talking about the Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe ODIs, the first thing comes to the mind is the lowest totals in this format, recorded by Zimbabwe. Two of the three lowest totals in ODI format including the lowest of 35 has been recorded by the African team over the Lankan side. In fact, the first 14 lowest totals in the ODIs between these two are in the name of Zimbabwe. Sri Lanka never got bowled out under 150 vs Zimbabwe in ODI cricket.

Individual records:

Andy Flower has scored the most runs in the Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe ODIs with 916 runs while Muralitharan has taken 59 wickets, the only bowler with 50+ wickets in the ODIs between the two teams. Chaminda Vass’s 8/19, the best bowling figures in ODI history also came against Zimbabwe while no batsman has managed to score an individual 150 in SL-Zim ODI games.

Upul Tharanga’s 602 runs are the most amongst the active players while no one except Asela Gunaratne has taken 6 or more wickets in Sri Lanka-Zimbabwe ODIs among the current squads.
