The defending champions of T20 Blast Nottinghamshire were rescued by their skipper Daniel Christian in the second game who helped them open their account with a win. The Nott Outlaws suffered a big defeat in the opening game against Birmingham, the runners-up of the last edition. Christian scored an unbeaten 113 in just 40 balls against Northamptonshire to power his side to 219/6. The home team made only 161 in the chase before they were bowled out in the 18th over.

Christian hit seven fours and nine sixes during his power-packed innings of 113*. He brought up his century in just 37 balls which is the joint 7th fastest in T20 cricket and the joint 2nd fastest in English domestic T20. Andrew Symonds scored a 34-ball ton way back 2004 while Scott Styris also scored a hundred in 37 balls during the 2012 competition. Christian walked out to bat when his side was 81/4 in 9.4 overs and scored 113 out of the 138 runs by his team in the last 10.2 overs.

His unbeaten 113 is the highest individual score by any player in the T20 format while batting at No.6. David Malan in the 2008 T20 Cup quarter-final for Middlesex and Rakep Patel during the WT20 Qualifiers in 2013 for Kenya scored 103 while batting at No.6. Interestingly, Christian also holds the record for the highest individual score while batting at No.5 which he recorded by scoring 129 for Middlesex in the 2014 T20 Blast game against Kent. Christian scoring century coming to bat after 9.4 overs is the 3rd latest a player took the strike and scored a century in Twenty20 cricket.

Styris got in to bat after his team Sussex lost their 3rd wicket in 11.2 overs when he scored a 37-ball hundred while David Miller arrived at the crease after 9.5 overs when he scored the record fastest T20I ton in just 35 balls. Christian’s strike-rate of 282.5 in this innings is the 3rd highest by a player who scored 100 in a T20 inning. Rishabh Pant had a S/R of 305.26 during his unbeaten 116 off 38 balls while Louis van der Westhuizen scored 145 off 50 balls at 290.
