Steve Smith has gone past the legendary Sachin Tendulkar on his way to his 22nd Test century in the ongoing Ashes Test match in Perth. The Australian skipper has been shattering records with his bat thanks to his prolific form mostly in whites. He brought up yet another ton in the longest format of the game on the third morning at the WACA and is still unbeaten looking good for his second double-century. However, Smith has entered the list of the legends as far as the fastest to reach the 22nd Test centuries is concerned.

The all-time great Don Bradman leads the charts as he had reached his 22 tons in Tests in just 58 innings accumulating a total of 29 scores of more than 100 in his 52-match Test career. Another former Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar follow Bradman in the list who had achieved the similar milestone in 101 innings. He ended his career with 34 centuries until he decided to hang his boots after representing his country in 125 Test matches.

How many innings did Sachin take?

Steve Smith notched up his 22nd Test century during his 108th innings in the format and has trumped Tendulkar in the race along with the Mohammad Yousuf of Pakistan. Sachin had reached his 22nd ton in the format in 114 innings and also went on to score 51 of them in total in 200 matches in whites. He currently holds the record of the most centuries in Test cricket and is a long way ahead of the modern day legends Virat Kohli and Smith who are expected to get close to him on the basis of their current form.

Mohammad Yousuf is next on the list who scored his 22 Test hundreds in 121 innings and also is the slowest among the aforementioned players. Though nothing could be taken away from him as he was one of the best players for Pakistan in Tests and ended up by adding only two more tons to his tally. Smith and Kohli are in the league of their own with some scintillating performances across the formats.
