Sri Lanka’s Chamari Atapattu played probably the greatest innings ever in the Women’s ODI cricket if not one of the best ever in the format as she scored a brilliant unbeaten 178 off just 143 balls and powered her side to a total of 257/9 out of which her contribution was 69.26 percentage.

This was the first instance of a Sri Lankan Woman scoring a century in the World Cup and the 3rd century in ODIs; all the three belong to Atapattu. In fact, she has the top 4 individual scores in Women’s ODIs for Sri Lanka. The only score in the top 5 list that is not on her mane is 88 by Vasanthi Ratnayake. The previous highest individual score in Women’s World Cup by a Sri Lankan player was 84 by Deepika Rasangika in 2013 against India.

Atapattu’s knock of 178 runs stood out as the 2nd highest individual score in Women’s World Cup and only the 3rd highest individual score in Women’s ODIs. Belinda Clarke’s 229* vs Denmark is the highest individual score in both World Cup and ODIs in Women’s cricket.

Atapattu took over the responsibility of guiding her team to a good total coming out to bat after the loss of a wicket in the very first over. She scored 178 out of Sri Lanka’s 257-run total with the next highest individual score in their innings being 24 by Shashikala Siriwardene. Her contribution of 69.26 percentage is the highest in a completed innings in Women’s ODIs beating Lynne Thomas’s 61.94 (70 out of 113) which was scored against India in 1982 for International XI Women.
