The decision of awarding T20I status to all Twenty20 matches between countries seems to be affecting the record books, especially in the Women’s cricket. On Tuesday, the Mali Women recorded an embarrassing feat against Rwandans in the Kwibuka Women’s T20 tournament game. In their T20I debut, the Mali Women were bundled out for just six runs, which is not only the lowest total in Women’s T20I cricket but also the lowest ever in an international game across Men’s and Women’s cricket.

Mali elected to bat first in the second game of the 4-team T20I tournament. After the first run came via wide, opener Mariam Samake picked up a single on the 5th ball of the first over. Less known that would be the only run coming off the bat for them in the game. In fact, the two runs conceded in that over were the only runs that went into bowlers’ account. As many as nine batters bagged ducks for Mali with 2 runs each coming from byes and leg-byes after the opening over.

Mali’s total of 6/10 is the first ever single-digit team total in international cricket. The previous lowest is recorded by China Women also in a T20I this year against UAE. The 9 overs they batted are also the fewest in International innings surpassing Mexico’s 18/10 in 9.5 overs against Brazil last year. The top ten lowest totals in T20I history are recorded in Women’s cricket; all ten since the regulation that came in mid-2018 of awarding T20I status for all country vs country T20s.

Rwanda Women chased down the paltry total in four balls and recorded the biggest win ever in terms of the number of balls to spare in the T20I history (116 balls). The previous biggest T20I victory was recorded by Namibia Women when they chased down 26 in 2.1 overs against Mozambique Women in 2018. The nine ducks bagged by Mali Women are also the most in an International innings surpassing the 8 ducks in Kuwait Women’s innings in the Bangkok T20I this year against Hong Kong.
