Tamim Iqbal gradually raised the standard in his limited overs batting with consistency over the last couple of years to be ranked among the players of the top cricketing nations. The Bangladesh batsman has the 4th best batting average among the openers since the start of 2015. Tamim amassed 2020 runs in this span in only 40 innings at an average of 56.11 with five centuries and 14 fifties. He averages over 45 in each of the last three calendar years where his team reached new heights.
In the last couple of years, Bangladesh turned out to be a team to defeat at home even as their winning streak included the big sides like India, South Africa and Pakistan in the ODI format. Tamim’s exceptional run is one of those factors that helped Bangladesh to form a fortress at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka where the batsmen have faced troubles on the slow tracks but Tamim’s experience helped him to excel at the venue and score loads of runs.
Tamim scored his 3rd consecutive 75+ score on Tuesday with a 76-run knock against Zimbabwe in the 5th match of the Tri-Nation series. With help of this innings, Tamim became the first Bangladesh player to score 6000 ODI runs. He was the first Bangladesh player to reach 4000 and 5000 ODI runs as well. After his recent outing, Tamim has 2549 runs in the ODIs at Dhaka which are the most number of runs scored by any player in this format at a single venue. He scored those runs in 73 innings with five hundreds and 16 fifties.
The Bangladesh opener surpassed Sanath Jayasuriya’s tally of 2514 ODI runs which the Sri Lankan made at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Tamim Iqbal isn’t the only Bangladeshi in the list of players with most ODI runs at a venue as his fellow team-mates Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim alone occupy spots in the top six in this list with their runs at the Dhaka stadium. Shakib stands at No.4 with 2369 runs while Rahim is at No.6 with 2171 runs.
