Bangladesh was in the reckoning to be named the 2nd best Asian side with their streak of wins at home especially in the limited-overs format until they started flying abroad. Their qualification for the Champions Trophy 2017 semi-final did surely increase expectations but they hardly won anything after that. The Nidahas Trophy could be considered as their best performance in this last one year which they would’ve won if not for the last ball six from Dinesh Karthik.

While the results in ODI and T20I cricket have been a mixed bag for the Bangladeshis, the Test format has served them sour fruits. South Africa handed them a thumping 2-0 defeat last year while 2018 began with another Test series defeat at the hands of a young Sri Lankan side. Things got worse for them in the Caribbean islands are they bagged many unwanted records in the first Test that was wrapped up in less than three days. They were bowled out for just 43 in the first hour of the game.

A little fight from the lower-order helped them to 144 runs in the 2nd essay however, they ended up losing by innings and 219 runs. The approach of Bangladesh’s batting was under criticism as even the senior players failed to tackle slightest of movement. The team that is into the 18th year as a Test-playing nation hasn’t achieved anything big in their first 107 matches like few other nations but have lost a substantial number of games when compared to others. However, it can be eased with the fact that they are more than a decent team in the limited-overs cricket and can defeat any given team on their day.

Since 2014, Bangladesh have registered series wins in the ODI format against the teams like India, South Africa and Pakistan at home. In their first six years as a Test nation, Bangladesh played 40 Tests (only one match in 2000) and then only 53 in the next ten years. In the last three years, they have played 14 Tests winning three of those. All the three wins have come against top sides notably Sri Lanka, England and Australia.
