Australian skipper Steve Smith has wished his friends and fans in India a very happy Diwali as the festive season in India continues. The cricketer always loves to stay in the country and it seems that he has loved the Indian culture. Diwali is the festival in India which is termed as the ‘festival of lights’ and families come together to celebrate. The celebrations often continue for around a week as the environment in the country is absolutely marvellous.

However, it is natural of Smith getting attached to the Indians as he has spent almost 6 of the last nine months in the country. He led the team in the Test series which commenced in February and concluded by the end of the March. After a gruelling couple of months, the action continued as Indian Premier League (IPL) started soon and the Australian was the leader of the franchise Rising Pune Supergiant which lost the final by a close margin. Recently, the 28-year-old was in India for a month or so for a limited overs series against Virat Kohli led. So there is a possibility that he might have got an idea of the Indian culture.

Steve Smith took to social media website Instagram and posted a picture which had written ‘Happy Diwali’ along with lights. He captioned the image with a wonderful message read, “Happy Diwali to all my friends and fans in India #homeawayfromhome.” Surely, India is a home away from home for the Australians as they spend almost a couple of months in the country while playing in the lucrative league.

Here’s how Smith wished his fans:

Happy Diwali to all my friends and fans in India #homeawayfromhome

What next for Smithy?

Steve Smith is currently enjoying a break as he is recovering from a minor shoulder injury which he sustained during the ODI series in India. He was also subsequently ruled out of the T20I series which followed. However, a sterner test awaits further as England are visiting down under to defend the urn. Ashes is all set to begin from November 23 in Brisbane at Gabba. All the national players from Australia will participate in the Sheffield Shield season to hit the straps before the much-awaited clash.
