It seems Match 25, 2019, has changed the course of cricket, at least in the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was on this day that the captain of Kings XI Punjab (KXIP), Ravichandran Ashwin, ‘Mankaded’ Rajasthan Royals (RR) batsman Jos Buttler as the batsman left the crease at the non-striker’s end before the bowler released the delivery. Hell broke loose after that incident and the cricketing world was deeply divided over Ashwin’s act, which was though not illegal but not as per the game’s spirit either.
On Tuesday, the two teams met again for their return clash and this time also, the RR were chasing a similar target and fell short by a similar margin. KXIP scored 182 for 6 and the RR, despite a good start, fell short by 12 runs by managing 170 for 7 in 20 0vers. Though there was no March 25 like incident this time and Ashwin even ended up with the man of the match award, the shadow of ‘Mankading’ yet loomed large over the game though in a light spirit.
Stuart Binny is not a Mankading candidate
It was towards the end of the 18th over when Mohammed Shami was bowling and Ajinkya Rahane was on strike that Stuart Binny, the non-striker, did something strange. The in-form batsman took a run in the previous ball to give his captain the strike and Shami pulled out at the last moment before releasing the delivery seeing Rahane shuffling across.
As the pacer was walking back to his run-up, the non-striker Stuart Binny jumped back into the crease while looking at the former, suggesting that he was not on for yet another ‘Mankading’. Shami ignored Binny’s act even though his facial expression gave a hint that he didn’t lose notice of it.
Binny’s funny act went viral on the social media and even his anchor wife Mayanti Langer Binny couldn’t hide her amusement.

In terms of the match result, though, the RR did not have much to be happy about. It was their sixth loss in eight games and with just four points in their kitty, the former champions are in danger of an early exit from the tournament.
