Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, headed by Imran Khan, recently won the General Elections, conducted on July 25, 2018. They competed with Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and comprehensively brushed them aside. Despite their resounding victory, they haven’t yet reached a majority of 138 votes and are still 22 seats short as per the results from Election Commission of Pakistan.

Hence, for the time being, they can’t form a government at Centre and in Punjab. Meanwhile, Khan’s oath-taking ceremony as the Prime Minister is scheduled to take place on August 11 and the same was announced by Imran during an interaction with the party members of the provincial assembly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The ceremony will take place three days prior to August 14, Pakistan’s Independence Day.

In the meantime, a number of prominent personalities from the cricketing and Bollywood fraternity including the likes of Navjot Singh Sidhu were invited. However, former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar hasn’t got the invitation yet as per reports in Mid-Day. Amir Khan, the veteran actor, also didn’t get the invitation. But it has been learned that PTI had sent out invitations to both Gavaskar and Aamir.

Imran’s glorious run

He started his political career back in April 1996 when he founded his party and hasn’t looked back ever since. Prior to weaving his magic in the political fraternity, Khan was an integral member of the Pakistani cricket team in Tests and ODIs. He made his debut back in 1971 and his illustrious career spanned a whopping 21 years.

In 88 Tests and 175 ODIs, the Lahore-born all-round cricketer, scored 3807 and 3709 runs respectively. He was equally impressive with the leather and finished with 362 and 182 wickets. He last donned the national colours in the final of the 1992 World Cup against England, which Pakistan won. Imran scored 72 runs in the match to go with the wicket of Richard Illingworth.
