Sunil Joshi to replace MSK Prasad as chairman of selectors; Harvinder Singh also added to the selection panel

All the questions around who will be the successor of the remaining two members of the Indian selection committee have finally been answered. The Cricket Advisory Committee, consisting of former World Cup winners Madan Lal, Rudra Pratap Singh, and Sulakhna Naik, has announced that former Indian cricketers in Sunil Joshi and Harvinder Singh will replace MSK Prasad (South Zone) and Gagan Khoda (Central Zone).

The Cricket Advisory Committee-led by Madan Lal met at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) headquarters in Mumbai, on Wednesday, and have recommended former left-arm spinner, Sunil Joshi, as the successor to MSK Prasad as the chairman of the selection committee.

The CAC will review the candidates after a one-year period, post which, it will make the recommendations to the apex cricketing body in India- BCCI. Joshi and Harvinder Singh will join Devang Gandhi, Sarandeep Singh, and Jatin Paranjape, whose tenure will come to a culmination later this year.

While the BCCI’s new constitution doesn’t warrant zonal representation, it has stuck with its policy of one member from each of the four zones, with Joshi and Singh representing South and Central respectively.

Sunil Joshi played 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India

Both Joshi and Singh are former Indian internationals. Harvinder Singh, former right-arm fast bowler made his Test debut for India during the 1998 Border-Gavaskar Trophy but over the course of the next three years, he could play just three Tests- the last of which came against Sri Lanka in 2001. Apart from three Tests, Singh played 16 ODIs for India between 1997-2001, where he claimed 24 wickets at an average of 25.38

Sunil Joshi, on the other hand, featured in 15 Tests and 69 ODIs for India between 1996-2001, in which he claimed a total of 110 wickets which includes two four-wicket and as many five-wicket hauls. Joshi’s finest hour in International cricket where he claimed 5/6 in an ODI against South Africa.

The selection committee’s immediate task will be to select the Indian squad for the three-match ODI series against South Africa, which starts from March 12.
