Days after New Zealand wicketkeeper-batsman Tom Latham ended the year with the highest individual Test score of the year 2018 scoring 264* against Sri Lanka. Another New Zealand List A cricketer Kyle Jamieson created a record of third best figures in T20 cricket. The medium pacer who represents Canterbury in Super Smash T20 competition took record-breaking 6 for 7 in his four overs against Auckland.
Canterbury after winning the toss elected to field first, that’s when the medium pacer produced a fiery spell claiming 3 wickets. He was introduced in 3rd over of the match and he took the wicket of Sean Solia and conceded 3 runs in his 1st over. In his second over which was 5th of the match, he conceded just 1 run and claimed 2 scalps including the likes of James Vince and Mark Chapman. He was also involved in the run out of Glenn Phillips in the same over.
His 3rd over of the match came in the 6th over where he only gave away 1 run without a wicket. He was later introduced in the 18th over where Aukland was struggling at 92 for 6. He demolished the tail by claiming 3 wickets in the same over and conceded one run and ended up claiming 4-0-7-6. However, Canterbury won the match by 5 wickets.
Best bowling figures by a New Zealander
Only Arul Suppiah who took 6/5 for Somerset back in 2011 and Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan who claimed 6/6 for Barbados Tridents in 2013 is ahead of Jamieson. The 24-year-old equalled Lasith Malinga’s figures 6 for 7 that he had managed in the Big Bash League back in 2012. Jamieson now also holds a record of best bowling figures by a New Zealander which was previously held by the leg-spinner Ish Sodhi who ran through Adelaide with 6/11 in the BBL 2017. The medium pacer has created another record of having the most economical figures in the Super Smash history, beating James McMillan’s 2/8 for Otago.
Talking to the press he said that he didn’t know that he had created a New Zealand record. He is happy to have won on the first day of the year and wants to reflect this performance in the upcoming matches. Meanwhile, Canterbury is placed 5th in the Super Smash points table with four points.
