All the advantage that India had at the end of day two of the ongoing Test against Australia in Adelaide evaporated in less than an hour when both the teams took the field on day three. The first session of the third day was being seen as the match-deciding one and the way it has panned out so far, it won’t be wrong to say that Australia have taken the upper hand.

Team India were firmly on the driver’s seat after their bowlers’ scintillating display on day two of the Test. The likes of Jasprit Bumrah, Umesh Yadav and Ravichandran Ashwin put the visitors on top by bowling out the hosts for just 191 and giving India a handy lead of 53. Ashwin picked up four wickets while Umesh and Bumrah picked three and two wickets respectively.

Earlier in the game, India were all out for 244. Unsurprisingly, the cricketing world was expecting another exciting battle between the top two Tests teams of the world when day three started. However, the Indian batsman simply failed to deliver in the second innings. Even before the spectators could settle down on their sits, half of the Indian team was back in the hut.

Mayank Agarwal and Jasprit Bumrah started the proceedings on day three with the scoreboard reading 9 for 1. Prithvi Shaw was out for 4 towards the end of day two. And it took Australia only two overs to draw the first blood when Pat Cummins sent back Bumrah. India could not even add another run before they lost Cheteshwar Pujara, Mayank Agarwal and Ajinkya Rahane to find themselves reeling at 15 for 5 from 15 for 1.

Cummins accounted for Pujara with a stunner before Josh Hazlewood put India in more trouble. Bowling his first over of the day, Hazlewood dismissed Agarwal and Rahane for 9 and 0 respectively to put Australia on top.

Virat Kohli fails too

All eyes were on Virat Kohli when wickets were falling in heaps at one end. However, the India skipper failed to deliver too as he could score just 4 before being sent back by Cummins. Kohli’s dismissal saw India reduced to 19 for 6. The ongoing game is Kohli’s last of the four-match series. He will return home after this Test to attend the birth of his first child. In the end, India got all-out for 36 runs, registering their lowest ever Test total.

Meanwhile, the start of day three took the cricket world by surprise. The fans and experts took to Twitter to give their reaction on the way things unfolded. While some trolled India for their poor batting display, the others lauded Australia for their stunning show with the ball.
