Match Details:

The North Group match of the T20 Blast is all set to be played between Durham and Yorkshire at the Riverside Ground, Chester-Le-Street.

This match is scheduled to start at 6:30 PM Local Time (11:00 PM IST) and may be streamed on Yorkshire’s YouTube channel in India.

Preview:

Yorkshire is a team which has given a number of international players to the English Cricket team. While they have been considerably depleted this season, they have performed well, although they have been quite unlucky. Despite having played well and winning a game by 99 runs, they just have one win in 4 games as 2 of their games were washed out and they lost a close one as well. Hence this game becomes more important for them.

Durham, on the other hand, has had a horrid season. They have lost 3 games out of the 4 they have played with one being washed out, and have looked extremely weak in the absence of star all-rounder Ben Stokes. They are on the brink of elimination and will have to put out their A game if they have to try and beat a strong Yorkshire side.

Weather Report

A typical English day is expected in Chester-Le-Street with a high of 17 and low of 8 degree Celsius through the day. Although around 17% precipitation is expected around game time, both the games at the venue were completed. So we are likely to have a full game.

Pitch Condition/Report:

The pitch at Riverside Ground has favoured batsmen over the years, and especially this season where two scores of 180 have already been posted. Expect it to play well for the batsmen once again.

Average first innings score: 165 (Last five complete matches played at this venue)

Top Picks:

Despite not making it to England’s T20 team, Joe Root has silently been making a case for himself in the T20 blast. He has accumulated 129 runs in just 2 innings at a brilliant strike rate of 155.4. Root, right through his career, has been an underrated player in the shortest format of the game and this season it seems he wants to prove his worth. The classy batsman is in fabulous nick and is looking hungrier than ever.

Another Yorkshire player who has been in unbelievable form this year, has been Adam Lyth. Lyth, who had a great season last year with bat and ball scoring 375 runs and picking 12 wickets, has started this season with a bang too scoring 114 runs in 2 games at a jaw dropping strike rate of 187, giving blistering starts to Yorkshire. He’s bowled at an economy of around 4.17 as well. Expect another all-round show from Lyth.

Alex Lees has been one of the rare shining stars of Durham this season who have otherwise been quite disappointing. He has scored 136 runs in 3 innings with two half centuries and has looked solid in all his innings. Expect him to come good once again.

David Willey has perhaps been the unluckiest cricketer in the last 18 months. Despite being a regular member of the English squad for a long time, he missed out on the World Cup squad and then after making a return earlier this year, he has been dropped yet again. He returns as captain of Yorkshire and being in good form with bat and ball in T20 in the last few years now, he will surely be looking to make a mark and show his true prowess. Watch out for this wounded lion.
