India has locked horns with New Zealand in what is a crucial encounter for both teams. After having won the toss, Kane Williamson decided to bowl first at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. India lost the wicket of Ishan Kishan early on and that is when Rohit Sharma walked onto the field. However, the batter was lucky enough as Adam Milne dropped his catch off the very first delivery he played.

Sharma’s wife Ritika, who is often spotted in the stadium cheering for the batter, was seen taking a sigh of relief after his catch was dropped. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja’s wife were also seen beside her. However, when Sharma survived off Boult’s delivery, Prithi (Ashwin’s wife) consoled Ritika, who looked tense when it appeared as Sharma would depart for a golden duck.

After Ishan Kishan lost his wicket to Boult in the third over, Sharma came in to bat. Facing the first delivery of the match, the batter looked to pull it but the ball went to Adam Milne at catching height. Boult had bowled a short ball in order to dominate the proceedings and had almost done the job for the team. Milne got both his hands under the ball but eventually did not complete the catch and provided Sharma with a life.

India and New Zealand aiming to open their account in the mega event

Both the teams lost their previous encounter to the in-form Pakistan side. India entered the match against the Men in Green as favorites to win, considering their records in the ICC events, but Pakistan exuded great character to register a thumping victory. The Babar Azam-led side broke India’s 12-match winning streak in the World Cups.

New Zealand, on the other hand, managed to put up a decent total on board for Pakistan. The team also displayed some great promise with the ball and did not let the chase be a cakewalk for the opposition. This will be a crucial encounter for both sides as a defeat here might hamper their chances of making it to the semi-finals of the tournament.
