India, on Friday, defeated Scotland by eight wickets to stay alive in the T20 World Cup 2021. Virat Kohli and Co. put their best foot forward with their backs pushed to the walls. After two defeats in their first two Super 12 matches, the Men in Blue have notched back-to-back wins. Scotland, in the meantime, kept gasping for breath and lost their fourth match of the multi-nation mega event.

Scotland huff and puff

Scotland had a tough time after being put in to bat first as they could only score 85 runs in 17.4 overs. Skipper Kyle Coetzer, Matthew Cross and Richie Berrington scored a combined tally of three runs after the Indian bowlers made inroads into the Scotland batting. Berrington got his third duck of the event after the ones against Namibia and Afghanistan. George Munsey looked resolute to score big.

The southpaw scored a 19-ball 24, laced with four fours and a six before Mohammed Shami sent him packing. Michael Leask smashed two fours and one six on his way to a quickfire 12-ball 21. But Ravindra Jadeja cut short his stay in the middle. Jadeja went on to pick up three wickets, conceding 15 runs in three overs. While Shami also got three wickets, Jasprit Bumrah accounted for two scalps.

Rohit, Rohit take India home

Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, the two Indian openers, showed their intent right from the word go. From the very first over, the duo threw their bats around to make sure that India take care of their net run rate. In the first four overs, the opening batters racked up 53 runs to fizzle the spirit out of the bowlers. They were most severe on the pace trio of Brad Wheal, Safyaan Sharif and Alasdair Evans.

Rohit and Rahul put on 70 for the opening wicket off five overs. Wheal gave Scotland their first breakthrough, getting rid of Rohit, who made 30 off 16 with five fours and one six. Rahul, at the other hand, smashed his way to a 19-ball 50, laced with six fours and three sixes. Albeit Mark Watt accounted for his wicket, India tracked the target down with as many as 81 balls to spare.
