Australia, led by Aaron Finch, won their fourth game in the Super 12 of the T20 World Cup on Saturday, November 6. The Aussies defeated West Indies by eight wickets at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. They also got their net run rate up to as high as 1.216. As far as the Kieron Pollard-led team is concerned, their horrendous run in the mega event came to an end.

Josh Hazlewood stands out for Australia

West Indies did a reasonable job after being sent in to bat as they racked up a competitive score of 157 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. Chris Gayle and Evin Lewis took their team off to a flying start with some powerful shots. But Gayle, Nicholas Pooran and Roston Chase perished in quick succession as the Caribbean team lost three wickets after seeming to gain the upper hand.

Lewis and Shimron Hetmyer scored 29 and 27 respectively, but both failed to convert. Kieron Pollard batted at No.6 and made a timely 31-ball 44, laced with four fours and six. Dwayne Bravo hit a six, but scored 10 at under a run-a-ball. In the end, Andre Russell injected impetus into the innings with a seven-ball 18. Josh Hazlewood was the standout Australian bowler as he picked up four wickets.

Warner plays a blinder

Australia came out with fire in their run-chase as they scored 53 runs in the powerplay. Finch fell prey to Akeal Hosein, but David Warner made sure that the West Indies were never allowed to get a foothold back into the contest. The latter scored his fifty off 29 balls and carried on with his decent form in the tournament. He also got a reliable partner in Mitchell Marsh, who’s been in good form.

Marsh and Warner put on 124 runs for the second wicket off 12.3 overs. Marsh looked ominous, scoring 53 off 32 with five fours and two sixes. He eventually fell prey to Chris Gayle. Warner, at the other end, played until the very end. The left-hander stayed not out on 89 off 56 with nine fours and four sixes. In the end, Australia chased the target down in 16.2 overs with 22 balls remaining.
