India have managed to end their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign on a positive note after winning their final Super 12 match against Namibia. On Monday, November 8, Virat Kohli and Co. defeated Gerhard Erasmus’s men by nine wickets at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Namibia began their Super 12 campaign by beating Scotland, but they finished with four hefty losses in a row.

Ashwin, Jadeja come to the party

After electing to field first, India restricted Namibia to an under-par score of 132 for the loss of eight wickets. Stephan Baard and Michael van Lingen put on 33 runs for the opening wicket off 28 balls to take their team off to a steady start. But soon they lost four wickets and were reduced to 47 for four. Craig Williams was promoted up the batting order to No.3, but he failed to open his account.

Namibia lost half their side in the 13th over with their score at 72. David Wiese looked ominous during his stay in the middle. The veteran scored 26 with two fours, but Jasprit Bumrah accounted for his wicket. In the end, Jan Frylinck and Ruben Trumpelmann’s cameos took Namibia past the 120-run mark. Ravi Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were the pick of the bowlers with three wickets apiece.

Rohit plays a blinder

India started their run-chase in a comprehensive manner, scoring 54 runs in the powerplay. Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul made sure that Namibia weren’t allowed to get a foothold back into the contest. The duo put on 86 runs for the first wicket off 9.5 overs and put India on the driver’s seat. The 34-year-old Rohit looked at his very best as he racked up a half-century off a mere 31 balls.

Frylinck ended his stay after he made a 37-ball 56, laced with seven fours and two sixes. Soon after, Rahul also notched a fifty off 35 balls. He managed to stay unbeaten on 54 with four fours and two sixes as India chased the target down with 28 balls left. Suryakumar Yadav played a handy knock of 25 off 19 with four fours. Despite three wins on the trot, India fell short of a semi-final berth.
