Afghanistan destroyed the Scotland side in Match No.17 of the 2021 T20 World Cup. Mohammad Nabi and his boys crushed their opposition by a whopping margin of 130 runs to start their campaign in the Super 12 stages on a rousing note.
Chasing a mammoth target of 191 set by Afghanistan, the Scotland side was bowled out for a paltry total of just 60. The Scotland willow wielders cut a sorry figure, as only 3 of their batsmen could even score in double figures. George Munsey top-scored for the Scotland side with a fluent 18-ball 25 at the top of the order.
But then, he received no support from his teammates, as the Scotland side was rendered clueless by the Afghanistan bowlers. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was simply unplayable. The 20-year-old Afghanistan spinner scalped a sensational five-wicket haul as the Scotland batsmen were totally helpless against him. Apart from Rahman, Rashid Khan picked up 4 wickets as well.
Afghanistan post a mammoth total of 190/4
Batting first, the Afghanistan side posted a gargantuan total of 190/4 on the board. Each and every Afghanistan player who wielded the willow out in the middle contributed useful runs. The Afghanistan openers, Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai put on a blazing opening partnership of 54 runs in just 5.5 overs.
After the departure of Shahzad for 22, Zazai and Rahmanullah Gurbaz continued to pile the misery on the opposition. While Zazai scored a 30-ball 44, Gurbaz scored a superb 37-ball 46. Najibullah Zadran then came in and pummeled the Scotland bowlers to shreds.
The left-hander scored a whirlwind 59 at a strike rate of 173.52 to help the Afghanistan side post a total of 190/4 on the board. Safyaan Sharif was the pick of the bowlers for Scotland.
The right-arm pacer scalped 2 wickets in the 4 overs that he bowled, and gave away 33 runs. Apart from Sharif, the likes of Josh Davey and Mark Watt picked up a wicket each. With this thumping victory, the Afghanistan side has moved to the top of the points table in Group 2, while Scotland is languishing at the last spot.
