T20 World Cup 2021 Points Table and Team Standings after Australia vs Sri Lanka Match

The Australian side posted their second consecutive victory of the 2021 T20 World Cup with a crushing 7-wicket victory over Sri Lanka. Chasing a target of 155 set by the Sri Lankan outfit, the Aussie opening duo of David Warner and Aaron Finch put on a blazing 70-run partnership off just 6.5 overs to rattle the Sri Lankan bowling attack.

Australian then lost two quick wickets, as both Aaron Finch and Glenn Maxwell walked back to the pavilion in the space of 10 runs. Warner and Steve Smith then forged a 50-run partnership to put Australia in the driver’s seat.

And, after Warner’s departure for a blazing 65, Marcus Stoinis and Smith stayed till the end and finished the job for the kangaroos. Wanindu Hasaranga was the star performer with the ball for Sri Lanka. The off-spinner picked up 2 wickets in his 4-over spell and gave away 22 runs. Apart from Hasaranga, Dasun Shanaka picked up a wicket as well.

Sri Lanka post 154 on the board

Batting first, Sri Lanka posted a total of 154/6 on the board. After opener Pathum Nissanka departed for 7, the duo of Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka put on a partnership of 63 runs for the second wicket. While Perera scored a 25-ball 35, Asalanka scored a fluent 35 off 27 deliveries.

Bhanuka Rajapaksa then scored a quickfire 33* to provide the final flourish to the Sri Lankan innings. With the ball, the likes of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Adam Zampa scalped 2 wickets apiece.

With this win, the Australian side has moved to second place in the points table, while Sri Lanka are stationed at the 4th spot. Australia will next take on the England side on 30th October 2021, while the Sri Lankan outfit will face off against South Africa on the same day.
