With the days of the T20 World Cup approaching soon, all the Indian fans are getting excited, considering the fact that this could be the year when they break their ICC tournament jinx and bring home a trophy. But before the tournament starts, there is always a period when players are anxious because they are not sure whether they have done enough to secure a place in the squad or not.

With the IPL 2021 second leg approaching, BCCI is expected to announce the squad anytime soon. Varun Chakravarthy’s sudden rise in Indian cricket is definitely a story of inspiration for many young sports lovers. However, his story gets highlighted every now and then because of his success on the field. In the 2020 Indian Premier League in the United Arab Emirates, Chakravarthy had his breakthrough season after a couple of years of teasing everyone.

He emerged as a successful mystery spinner, the likes which have not been a regular occurrence in Indian cricket in recent times. His ability to spin the ball both ways and confuse the batsmen with his variations impressed the Indian selectors. During that season, he ended with 17 wickets from 13 matches.

He had got an opportunity to travel to Australia but was ruled out due to an injury. When India was going to play England earlier this year, he did manage to get in the squad but his fitness was deemed not up to the mark. Finally, his opportunity came in Sri Lanka. So far, his numbers suggest all good things. He has an economy of 5.3 in his three T20Is and around the seven mark in the IPL. With India struggling to narrow down quality and consistent spinner, Chakravarthy could just turn out to be the surprise package.
