T20 World Cup 2021: West Indies name Jason Holder as a replacement for Obed McCoy

Obed McCoy has been ruled out of the entire tournament after suffering a leg injury.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has allowed Jason Holder to come into the West Indies squad as a replacement for Obed McCoy. McCoy has been ruled out of the entire competition after suffering a leg injury.

The ICC released an official statement where they stated that Holder was already named as a reserve player according to the allowances given to the various teams keeping in mind the Covid-19 quarantine measures. And, if a team wants a player to be replaced, then they will have to take the approval of the ICC Technical Committee.

“Holder was a reserve as per the allowance for teams to travel with extra players in view of COVID-19 quarantine requirements,” said the ICC in their official statement.

Jason Holder has played 27 T20Is for the West Indies

Jason Holder has featured in 27 T20I matches for the West Indies side in his career. While Holder has amassed 201 runs with the willow in hand, the right arm pace bowler has also scalped 22 wickets with the ball as well. Holder has taken his wickets at an average of 32.05 and a strike rate of 23.77.

Apart from that, Holder has also represented the West Indian side in 51 Tests and 121 ODI matches. He has taken 137 and 140 wickets in Test and ODI cricket respectively.

The West Indies side has lost both matches that it has played in the Super 12 stages of the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup, and is currently occupying the last spot in the points table in Group 1. In their previous rubber against the South African side, the West Indies side went down to the Proteas by 8 wickets.

The West Indies side will next take on the Bangladesh outfit on 29th October 2021. This battle will be held at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The West Indies are the only team to have won the T20 World Cup on 2 occasions. They are also the defending champions of the tournament as well.
