T20 World Cup 2026 Batting Most Centuries

In the eight editions of the T20 World Cup, the tournament has witnessed many records being broken and players becoming greats of the shortest format. The T20 World Cup first started in 2007, and since then, top players have come up after scoring many runs.

What's remarkable is that when this format was introduced, reaching a century seemed nearly impossible. However, with the incredible range of shots that modern batters have developed and their ability to easily clear the boundaries, breaching the three-figure mark isn’t uncommon anymore.

In the history of the T20 World Cup, only 10 cricketers have managed to score a century so far. Leading the pack is the legendary West Indian opener, Chris Gayle, who was the first to score a hundred in the tournament's inaugural edition in 2007. Playing against South Africa, Gayle smashed an unbeaten 117 off just 57 balls, including seven fours and 10 sixes.

Interestingly, Gayle is the only batter to have crossed the 100-run mark twice, the second time being in 2016 against England, which was played in India. Interestingly, the Caribbean batter also finds himself in the T20 World Cup Most Runs list.

India's Suresh Raina is the next on the list, scoring 101 off 60 balls against South Africa in the 2010 edition, becoming the first Indian to achieve the feat in the marquee event. In the same edition, Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene also joined the exclusive club, scoring an unbeaten 100 against Zimbabwe.

Other centurions include the swashbuckling New Zealand opener Brendon McCullum, who hammered 123 off 58 balls against Bangladesh in the 2012 season, and England's Alex Hales, who scored 116 in 2014 against Sri Lanka.

Although there have been bowlers like Shakib Al Hasan, Lasith Malinga, who are in the list of T20 World Cup Most Wickets, the fearless approach of batters has tilted the game slightly in their favour.
