The tour of India started on a very promising note for Dean Elgar. One of South Africa‘s main players, Elgar scored a brilliant century in the very first innings of the series. However, that knock was not at all the pointer of the things that were to follow. The opening batsman has struggled to replicate his early form and has looked awfully out of touch since that series.

His scores after the century in Hyderabad are 2, 6 and 48. Dean Elgar then made things worse for himself by complaining about the facilities on the tour. While calling the tour of India a challenging one, Elgar complained about the Indian food. He also complained about the hotels as he spoke about his tough sojourn in India.

“It’s a challenging tour. You get stretched as a person, you get stretched as a cricketer, I think you get to know yourself quite a lot as a person when you come to the smaller places where the hotels are maybe not as good, and you get challenged on the food you eat potentially,” Dean Elgar said before adding: “It’s always a good learning curve coming to India”.

Dean Elgar faces heat on Twitter

Elgar’s comments became viral and he faced criticism from the fans straightaway. Most of the fans labeled his complaints as an excuse. Well, Elgar faced the heat once again after failing to impress with the bat in the ongoing third Test in Ranchi. The southpaw was out on just the second ball of the innings without opening his account.

South Africa would have loved their star man to give them a solid start after India piled up 497 for 9 (declared). Opening batsman Rohit Sharma continued his fine start as a Test opener and scored his first double century. Ajinkya Rahane also did well to score his first Test century at home since 2016 as India recovered from 39 for 3 to post the big total.

But instead of enjoying India’s performance, the fans were quick to take shots at Dean Elgar for his latest failure. As soon as the South Africa opener was dismissed by Mohammed Shami, the fans took to Twitter to slam him.
