The upcoming series against South Africa will not only kickstart India’s home season but will also see the players don a new-look jersey. Team India will take on South Africa in the first of three T20 Internationals in Dharamsala on Sunday. The game will see India sport the jersey with the new sponsor’s name.

The jersey will have the logo of Byju’s, Bengaluru-based educational technology and online tutorial firm, in place of Chinese mobile manufacturer Oppo. In July this year, the BCCI had announced that Byju’s replaced Oppo as the sponsors. Oppo’s contract was set to end in 2022 before all the parties decided to end the deal. The new-look jersey, nonetheless, has the logo of the new sponsor emblazoned across the center.

It was unveiled in Dharamsala on Saturday during skipper Virat Kohli’s pre-match press conference. Along with Kohli, his deputy Rohit Sharma and coach Ravi Shastri were also present during the launch of the kit. India players were also seen wearing practice jerseys with the logo of the new sponsor in Dharamsala on Saturday.

India eye winning start

Team India, meanwhile, will be looking to start their journey in the new-look jersey on a winning note. India will be the favourites to win the clash tonight. The Men in Blue are in stunning form at the moment. They will be brimming with confidence after the impressive tour of West Indies where the team did not lose a single game across formats.

On the other hand, South Africa have performed indifferently in recent times. Contrary to their lofty reputation, the Proteas have struggled for consistency in the last year or so. The series against India will be their first outing after the dismal run in the World Cup and the visitors will be desperate to do well. While present form does not make them the favourites for the clash, South Africa will take inspiration from their last tour of India.

On their previous visit, they had defeated India in the T20I and the ODI series before being thoroughly outplayed in Tests. Meanwhile, after the T20Is, both the teams will lock horns in a three-match Test series.
