Team Pakistan booed and welcomed with taunts at airport

After a very dismal tour down under, the Pakistan team finally returned back home. However, they had to face the wrath of the Pakistani fans at the Lahore International Airport. Soon after the players descended in public vision from the airport terminal, they were greeted with boos and negative chants. The man who was the center of all the wrath was ODI skipper Azhar Ali.

The chants of ‘you leave the captaincy’ could clearly be heard as it was echoed to a high extent. The television channels showed that same and Azhar was seen heading towards the person chanting them in retaliation. However, Azhar just looked towards the person but chose not to do anything out of sense. He then headed to his car.

Also, the Pakistan team chose not to address the waiting media people outside the airport. Talking about the same, Azhar Ali later mentioned that they were asked by the PCB to avoid the media for the time being. Commenting on the dismal tour that they had, Pakistan managed to win just one match on the tour. They were whitewashed at the hands of Australia in the Test series.

They had given a lot of hopes after the first Test at Brisbane where they got very close to a historic win. Barring that show, they had nothing to boast about in the Tests. They were beaten and bruised 0-3 in the Test series. Came the ODI series and their fortunes did not seem to change. They lost the ODI series 4-1 to end their poor tour. The only match that they won was the second ODI, and that too under the captaincy of Mohammad Hafeez as Azhar Ali was injured for the match.

No wonder why the talks of sacking Ali as the captain are doing the rounds in the news headlines. Prior to the Australia tour, the team had suffered a 2-0 sweep in the New Zealand Test series too. The performances have been far from impressive and hence the anger of the fans is only justified at the moment. To add salt to the wounds of the booed skipper, Azhar Ali has been handed a one-match ban for slow over rate during the final ODI against Australia.
