Although the Delhi Capitals lost their recent encounter against Mumbai Indians, the team is on a roll with five wins out of their seven games. They have been playing some top-class cricket in the tournament. And with the kind of talent and balance they have, they are surely one of the top contenders to win this year’s event. They just need to learn the art of chasing targets, which is the only area they have not looked comfortable.

They can also do that, as this Delhi side has a plethora of match-winners. Almost every one of them in the playing XI has contributed to the team’s success. And the only one who is yet to nail his spot in this team is Shimron Hetmyer. The West Indian has been given the role of a finisher by the Capitals. It is a new responsibility for him as he normally bats up the order.

And till now, it has been hit and misses for him. Though he did play a good knock of 45 against Rajasthan Royals, there is nothing else to show in his remaining outings. But to be fair to him, he also hasn’t got many opportunities because of the in-form top order. That’s where the question comes that has the franchise done the right thing by spending 7.75 crores for his services?

Hetmyer is a top-order player, and he might take time to get used to his new role. Besides, he cannot add more value to the team other than with his batting. And to add to that, he is also one with buttery fingers, which is clear from his dropped catches. Hence he is not making up for the hefty amount paid to him. It might not be his mistake completely, but the franchise should take a hard look at Hetmyer’s paycheque.
