Team-wise one player who deserves a salary cut in IPL 2020

6) Kolkata Knight Riders – Sunil Narine (12.5 crores)

There is no doubt that the Kolkata Knight Riders is one of the strongest teams in IPL 2020. The Dinesh Karthik-led side has some genuine match-winners in their ranks. And if they play to their potential, then they will make it to the playoffs without any hassles. However, they have to make sure that they play as a team which has been an area of concern for them in this season.

When their batting unit has performed, their bowling has let them down, and when the bowlers have done their job their batters have failed to compliment them. The other problem which has been hindering their progress is the poor form of some of their senior players. The West Indian cricketer, Sunil Narine, being one of them. The spinner has been a shadow of his former self in IPL 2020.

Being the senior bowler of the side, Narine hasn’t lived up to the expectations. He has bagged mere 5 wickets in 6 games. And now, he is out of the team as his bowling action is under the scanner. In the last season, also Narine didn’t do much favor to the team as he could only manage 10 wickets in 12 games. Even with all these average outings, he is still drawing a salary of 12.5 crores, which is just shocking.

Narine used to be Kolkats’s strike bowler in his early years, which is the reason why KKR has been retaining him for such a mammoth amount in all these times. Unfortunately, from the last two seasons, it can be concluded that he is well past his prime. Hence now the franchise should move on from him and invest their money in a better stock. In other words, it will be wise to reduce the value of Sunil’s IPL contract as soon as possible.
