Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi Capitals locked horns with Kings XI Punjab in the second encounter of the ongoing Indian Premier League. It was nothing short of a nerve-racking outing as fans were elated by the match eventually going into an exciting Super Over.

After being put to bat first, DC suffered three early setbacks in the form of Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw and Shimron Hetmyer. Despite suffering early blows, Delhi Capitals were able to amass 157-run total on the board on the back of Marcus Stoinis’ quick-fire 21-ball 53. Along with Stoinis, skipper Iyer and Rishabh Pant also shuffled the scoreboard by stitching a 73-run partnership in the middle overs.

In response, Kings XI Punjab also started their innings with a shaky start, losing three wickets in the first six overs. While skipper Rahul was castled in the fifth over by Mohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin struck in the subsequent over and scalped vital wickets of Karun Nair and Nicholas Pooran.

Delhi Capitals ultimately clinched the encounter in the Super Over

Ashwin dented KXIP’s run-flow by taking wickets in quick succession, leaving the Rahul-led side reeling at 34/3. However, the last ball of the over resulted in Ashwin injuring his shoulder. Glenn Maxwell punched the ball and Ashwin tried to save a single. In the process, he ended up dislocating his shoulder and eventually leaving the field.

A day after the match, the veteran off-spinner took it to Twitter to share the update of his injury. After seeing Ashwin in pain while walking off the field, many fans believed that his IPL 2020 journey might be over. But he has cleared that his pain has settled down the scan reports are positive too.

“I was in pain as I left the field last night, but the pain has settled down and the scan reports are pretty encouraging too. Thanks for all your love and support,” tweeted out Ashwin.

Talking about the match, Mayank Agarwal’s 89-run knock guided Punjab to level DC’s total. It all boiled down to a Super Over where KXIP were cleaned up for a meagre three-run total by Kagiso Rabada. DC clinched the encounter with four balls left and started their IPL 2020 campaign on a positive note.

After plying his trade for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020, Ashwin is also expected to play a crucial role in India’s tour Down Under. With ample experience under his belt, he’ll be expected to lead India’s spin bowling force on the Australian soil.
