Bowling a no-ball is something that is surely not a pleasant experience for a bowler. And, that might prove costly, especially in limited-overs cricket, where the opposition team is also awarded a Free Hit off the next delivery when a bowler oversteps.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar is a vital cog of the Indian limited-overs setup and is known for bowling tight lines and not conceding many extras. In the 2nd ODI between India and Sri Lanka, Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled a no-ball for the first time in more than 5 years. Also, the last time Kumar bowled a no-ball was way back in October 2015. Also, this is the first time in a whopping 3093 deliveries in international cricket that he has overstepped.

Kumar bowled a no-ball off the first ball of the 5th over when he was bowling to Minod Bhanuka. However, the next delivery that was a Free Hit did not prove to be costly for Kumar, as he bowled a slower delivery to fox the batsman.

And, the fans have let their thoughts known about Kumar’s no-ball on Twitter. While one fan tweeted that Kumar is an epitome of discipline as he has bowled a no-ball after 515 overs, another fan has tweeted that Kumar’s streak has finally come to an end today.

Yet another fan tweeted that the very fact that Kumar has bowled his first no-ball since October 2015 is a mind-blowing feat. And finally, another cricket fan wondered whether Kumar actually did overstep.

At the time of writing, the Sri Lankan scorecard reads 118/2 after 24 overs. The two batsmen who have been dismissed are Minod Bhanuka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal scalped both the Sri Lankan wickets to fall. The Indian side got the better of Sri Lanka in the first ODI and won the match comfortably with 7 wickets to spare. The Sri Lankan side needs a win in the 2nd ODI to stay alive in the series.
