BCCI’s acting secretary Amitabh Chaudhury has been actively participating in interviews and press conferences, interacting with the media to discuss major concerns related to the Indian Premier League. Last month, the schedule to the first 17 matches of the 12th season of IPL was unveiled. In a recent press conference, Mr Chaudhary has thus revealed that the complete IPL schedule will only be released after the election schedule is out.

Mr Chaudhary has recently disclosed that the role of key Indian players in the 12th edition of the Indian Premier League would be subject to the opinion of the selection committee and also the franchise. However, the players who are also a part of the World Cup squad will be given the liberty to choose the numbers of IPL matches they want to feature in. That way the workload will be reduced.

This season of the widely popular IPL will commence on March 23 with the defending champions Chennai Super Kings taking on the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. On February 19, the BCCI was able to release the itinerary to the first 17 matches spanning from March 23 to April 5. There were even rumours that the second part of the T20 league could be shifted to outside India due to a clash in dates with the general elections.

Choudhary makes the revelations

However, in the recent press conference, Amitabh Chaudhury has revealed that the major decision taken by the BCCI with regard to the venue of the IPL, even though the league is overlapping with the general elections, is that it will be conducted within the territory of India. Having said that, efforts have been made to be in dialogue with various government agencies.

To conclude the acting secretary told the media that the rest of the dates will only be decided on once the election dates are out. He said, “We’ll know which areas or which states will have elections in which phases and accordingly we’ll announce the IPL schedule.” To this, the COO of the IPL added, “We have followed the home-away format for the teams in the first half of the schedule. Whether or not we’ll be able to follow that in the next half again depends on the election dates and venues.”
