Ace opening batsman Gautam Gambhir may have been out of international cricket for some time now but the cricketer manages to make the headlines because of his unique take on diverse issues – from sports to politics to social causes. On Saturday, the 36-year-old cricketer came up with something unique again on Twitter and many of his fans failed to interpret it the right way. But Gambhir’s take reiterated the fact that he is always updated with current affairs and also knows interesting ways to put forth his views on them.

Gambhir, who recently had a spat with Jammu and Kashmir leader Omar Abdullah on the micro-blogging site over the death of a scholar-turned-extremist in the state, posted a tweet about the first ODI between India and the Windies in Guwahati asking whether the visitors, who have looked hapless so far on this tour, will be able to make a comeback. However, his tweet had a unique angle to it.

Gambhir omitted the word ‘I’ while writing the tweet, saying: “nd a w ll f ght West nd es n the f rst OD game today. W ll the v s tors spr ng a surpr se? We w ll f nd out soon.” The interesting fact is that the cricketer used a hashtag “MissingI” after his tweet and it made many of his fans believe that he was ruing the fact that he missed the series.

Gambhir last played in an ODI game for India in 2013 and given his good form in domestic cricket, his fans still harbour the hope of seeing him making a comeback in the national side. His tweet was liked almost 5,000 times and there was a buzz that the batsman was revealing his disappointment in a unique way.

However, it was soon understood that his tweet lacked ‘I’ because October 21 is observed as ‘Global Iodine Deficiency Disorders Prevention Day’ to raise awareness about the requirement of the crucial mineral for physical and mental development and the alphabet “I” refers to Iodine.

Harsha Bhogle also tweeted without ‘I’

Cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle was also seen tweeting without ‘I’ and with the hashtag #MissingI and he said: “Cr cket s a sport wh ch requ res more than phys cal strength. Your bra n must also be act ve all the t me. od ne s very cruc al for ch ldren dream ng to play for nd a one day” signifying how crucial is Iodine for children who aspire to play for India.”
