For KKR, their initial stint with Sourav Ganguly and coach John Buchanan gave them modest returns. The franchise despite having big names failed to qualify for the playoffs in the first three seasons. However, when Gautam Gambler was fetched to lead, the southpaw started writing the best glory days of Kolkata.

As the captain of the team till the 2017 season, Gambhir played a record 122 games for the purple army. In between, he also then topped charts for scoring the most runs for the franchise. From his 122 appearances, Gambhir collectively scored 3345 runs at an average of 31.26. But the core result of his residence in the KKR is the two IPL titles in 2012 & 2014.

Perhaps to help Gambhir and KKR become a top IPL giant, the mystery spin of Sunil Narine has also been the key. The WI spinner is not only now Kolkata’s highest wicket-taker but the seventh highest in IPL’s history. Overall from his tally of 134 games, Narine has scalped 143 wickets at an economy of 6.74.

However, the franchise’s 14-year long journey has also marvelously seen the rise of all-rounder Andre Russell. In today’s day and age, surely Russell has been the most valuable player of the purple army. In terms of his offering, so far Russell is KKR’s second-highest wicket-taker and has scored 1707 runs from 83 games.
